Sorry for the delay in responding, the email from Discourse had made its way into my junk folder.
I’ve stopped managing WordPress sites since starting my new job but it looks like Sendgrid have changed their settings since I wrote the example above: https://sendgrid.com/docs/Classroom/Basics/Email_Infrastructure/recommended_smtp_settings.html and you now have to use apikey as the username
