BrowserSync Version of Site looks different from site when accessed normally

I came across a strange problem:
for whatever reason, when i use yarn start the page that comes up is different from the one which is displayed if i go to example.com (local).

Which one will be displayed? Is there something wrong I’m doing that is making it appear this way?

Check the devUrl and proxyUrl as set in: /theme/resources/assets/config.json.
