Recaptcha plugins don't work

I installed and activated wp-recaptcha and Better Wordpress reCaptcha which are required to use Contact Form 7 reCaptcha Extension. It is on a site that was built in Roots 6.3.0. The CF7 reCaptcha Ext. is giving me the following error message:

You are using Contact Form 7 reCAPTCHA Extension. This needs a reCAPTCHA plugin to work properly but neither of the recommended reCAPTCHA plugins is installed and activated. Please install and activate one of the following plugins:
— WP-reCAPTCHA http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-recaptcha/
— Better WordPress reCAPTCHA http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bwp-recaptcha/

Why isn’t wordpress able to recognize that the plugins are activated? The wp recaptcha and bwp recaptcha links are in the main wordpress menu in the dashboard. I can go into the bwp recapcha page and add my recptcha keys and configure, but recapcha doesn’t appear on front end. Does anyone have an idea of why this message is being displayed when all the plugins are activated?

Secondly, the BWP recaptcha doesn’t require the CF7 reCaptcha Extension to work. It should be able to put a captcha in the cf7 form without the extension. But when I put the tag in the form it just displays the tag text in the front end instead of the captcha.

Doe anyone know a capcha plugin I can use for contact form 7 that will work with Roots?

Thanks

Hi, I don’t think this is a Roots problem (does it work with default theme?). I did a quick google using “This needs a reCAPTCHA plugin to work properly but neither of the recommended reCAPTCHA plugins is installed and activated” and it seems its a known problem. Try asking the plugin author for help before trying here.
