Hi everyone, I am in a group of four university students and we would like to help contribute by solving a sage Issue. We wanted to ask here first if anyone had any specific Issue recommendations for beginner contributors that we could work on.

There are only 9 open issues on Sage, but if you open it up to all of the Roots org issues there are hundreds.
But, perhaps a good place to start with Sage is documentation.
