SharePoint, PeopleSoft, Java Developer…WordPress Newbie

I need to learn WordPress Development as quickly as possible to bring our public-facing web site back in-house. The current theme is built on Sage. I’ve learned a lot of new buzz words and have a basic understanding of the pieces, just not how to put them all together.
