happy to see such a Active discourse happening Here!
currently im in the process of getting back into WordPress / Web dev for some projects.
I’m curious to learn if Roots could be the thing I’m searching for: minimalist, cleanest environment to build on?
I have some experiences in Development WordPress Websites (generate press and with some page builders) recently bought a bricks license out of curiousity and think its Great! Defenetly one of the better options out there.
But somewhat I don’t like the whole plugin Weirdness around it which is kinda native to WordPress.
for my work in building Information Modeling I do custom coding and scripting with python alot with different API’s and libraries. so I would say I can do things when it comes to coding. But I’m Not yet into something like react/vue or Lavarel.
I feel like it’s a way to go to be able to maintain and clean up the WordPress core to the point that it scales and operates Well.
now I’m asking myself if I bought the bricks license too early and should have done more research?
I mainly aim to create custom tailored Webseites for ngo’s, e-commerce but also custom LMS Systems that should be performant. (No lms Plugins please)
when it comes to performance and bloat im kind of really picky.. the seo Framework for example is a Good example of a plug-in WordPress Integration Done Right. Clean minimal, native feeling. Whereis acf or even something like yoast is bothering me with their ui cluttering that I cannot use it. I don’t get why the WordPress ecosysteem is so messy in that regard 
Thats the point: I want to have the maximal performance, maximal scalability & Freedom (least vendor lock in) with least bloat possible. (Actually the Bricks builder dependency would be acceptable but is one too much already if avoidable)
I’m happy to spin a round or two extra to Connect and build custom things when I need them instead of having some mess with 1000 funcionalities out of which I use 10 but al stuck with the rest. But I also don’t want to code everything from scratch and it should be maintainable to the point that I don’t have to babysit all the functionalities all the time.
what would be you suggestions in that regard? How could roots serving in this mission ? Or is a bricks + custom field good enough? In terms of cms is it Maybe smarter to move to another cms like payload ?
Performance wise and customization out of the box seems much Leaner compared to WP, but then on the over hand there is roots/lavarel to maintain wp in a proper manner ?
im a bit lost in the whole tech Stack thing Haha. Maybe someone can give me some industry insights so I can better decide what Stack is best for me currently to be able to create what I have in mind with precies quality and modern tech.
