Harness is an application used by construction companies to better manage health & safety. We replace paper forms, track worker training, and store important documents. Thousands of contractors already use Harness every day. Harness is built on WordPress multisite, a custom theme and the Roots/Trellis stack.
Our target audience is construction workers. These guys can build amazing things but they aren’t always comfortable with technology. This leads to some real challenges for us as we develop our product. For example, some of our users have asked the question “What’s a web browser?”. In order to be successful,
Harness must be easy to use for people that don’t use software. Prepare to be challenged like never before.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Rapidly building end-to-end features from scratch
Squashing bugs as they come up because you can’t stand crappy software
Talking to end users directly because you care about what they think
Constantly bringing your product ideas to the table because we’ll listen
One the key initiatives you’ll be working on is the creation of a new front end experience for Harness. We intend to decouple from Wordpress while still maintaining it as our backend. There are a number of technical challenges with this that have yet to be solved. You’ll be on the cutting edge of WordPress development as you help to solve them.
Skills & Requirements
2 – 6 years of professional software development experience (co-op included)
A strong understanding of how web applications work
Can move seamlessly between front-end, back-end, middle-end… any “end” really
Love creating processes and tools that help developers focus on quality
A “get it done” attitude; but you understand the difference between smart shortcuts, and shortcuts that keep phones buzzing all night
Amazing communication skills.
Demonstrable experience in Wordpress/PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript frameworks like React

This position will start as a full-time with salary but the goal is to transition the right person to a Head of Development role with an equity stake asap. Harness is looking to do some cutting-edge things in terms of mobile application development and the person leading the project could find themselves very much in-demand once completed.
