Good old fashioned HTML/CSS and PHP?

Is there a way to start with Sage without all this Node, NPM, Gulp… stuff?

Just good old fashioned HTML, CSS, and PHP files?

How?

Why would you want to do this? Is it to avoid setting up the build tools and learning how they work?

It can be a little tricky in the beginning but in the long run it will save you so much time and provide a very nice workflow. I couldn’t bear going back to the “good old fashioned” way now…

If you really don’t want all these features, Sage probably isn’t a good fit for you.

I wouldn’t recommend it but if you want to bypass the build tools, you could probably manually create your plain CSS / JS files in the theme’s dist subfolder (create it if it doesn’t exist). That would really be missing the point though…

Those tools are what Sage is. If you remove those tools, and the workflow they support, there’s nothing left of Sage. If you’re not interested in that workflow, then this isn’t the starter theme for you.

And that’s fine! Everyone has different needs.
