I’m just trying to get a sense of which image software to use for WordPress – my VPS suggests GD on server setup but Varying Vagrant Vagrants uses Imagick – which is better for a LEMP setup? Does it matter?
I was doing some research and it seems that since WordPress 3.5, it’s better to use Imagick – though I’m still not definitively sure why. It seems that it might have to do with the speed at which Imagick works compared to GD and maybe it keeps the quality of the images in a better looking state after resizing.
Wordpress falls back to GD if Imagick isn’t present but uses Imagick if both are there.
