Multisite subfolders in WP admin

First time setting up a multisite with subfolders.
Everything is fine on the front-end.

I have site.dev as the main site
and I have site.dev/news as the 2nd subsite.

In the backend I can’t easily access the dashboard of the 2nd site.
The dashboard URL is site.dev/wp/wp-admin when it should be
site.dev/news/wp-admin

If I enter that manually then I can access the dashboard fine.

The main site I can access the dashboard just fine and the URL is:
site.dev/wp-admin

How the heck do I get this setup properly? Kindly-

Have you checked the site urls?

site.dev --> site url: site.dev/wp
site.dev/news --> site url: site.dev/news
