Resources on creating mu-plugins

I haven’t came across mu-plugins before Sage. I’ve seen it recommended here a few different places when looking up questions that, it’s generally recommended to move functionality scripts into a mu-plugin. I can’t find many resources/examples of how to build any. I was wanting to start with something simple, like a shortcode for the admin side.

Does anyone have any good resources or examples of mu-plugins? I’m genuinely curious on how to use them and use cases for them.

An mu-plugin is simply a plugin that is placed in the wp-content/mu-plugins directory (or app/mu-plugins in Bedrock’s case).
