The Staff Member Portal, bane of web developers!

Hey,
I’m reaching out here because this community has probably dealt with these kinds of requests before. Today I’m trying to field the dreaded staff member portal question for a client.

I’m always hesitant to suggest staff or board members logging into WordPress to download documents; making sure their passwords are secure and their roles are locked down is more than the typical client can handle.

So have any of you solved this problem elegantly using either a WordPress plugin or other software recommendation (Dropbox; SharePoint; Pydio?)

I’ve used WP-Client for a few portals. It’s caused me some headaches, and updating has to be done via download and FTP, but I haven’t found anything better yet.
