Update to Roots Sage Book for 10

I love the Developer Book for Sage, I find myself referencing a lot more than I thought I would. I’m just curious if the update for Sage 10 will be out at the same time as the official launch?

Hey @Colin_Swinney - I love that you love the book! I’m currently rebuilding the Roots site with Sage 10 and getting ready to start updating the book based on the latest changes and some best practices.

The Sage 10 official launch is more than likely to come before the new edition of the Sage book is ready, but it shouldn’t lag behind by more than a few months

Thanks Ben, great to know. Between Sage 10 and the new 5.9 / FSE WordPress release, I feel like there’s going to be a lot to learn this year. Good docs like yours will definitely come in handy. Keep up the awesome work!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but just wondering if there is any updates on when the Sage 10 book might be released as my team is looking to utilize it during a site rebuild for our company.

Again apologies for the resurrected thread but I couldn’t find any info elsewhere

Hi @griffijo95 - there isn’t an ETA for the book update right now. It might be early 2023.

Hey everyone
Just quickly tuning in on this. Been working with the sage theme for a couple of weeks now and i love it so far. An up to date guide for v10 would be awesome to learn more.

Hey y’all!

At first, I was planning to update the Sage book for Sage 10, but the reality is there’s been a ton of changes in theme development, especially with the new block editor, and it would take a lot more work to cover everything properly.

The new editor really needs a whole book of it’s own. There’s so many different ways that folks are building editor blocks/plugins/etc.

Back when I wrote the Sage book, most of us were heavy ACF users (myself included). These days, I haven’t touched ACF in years. Once Elliot sold ACF, I started to distance myself from that ecosystem. Now, I’m all about using first-party blocks.

Since the editor keeps evolving so fast, I’m not really interested in writing and maintaining another book to keep up with it all. If anyone needs specific advice or guidance, though, I’m happy to jump on a consulting call.

I’m really grateful to everyone who supported the Sage book over the years. It had its time and helped a lot of folks, but there won’t be another edition.
