Updating/migrating from earlier Sage versions

Hello,

I have a custom theme that was made for me by a friend in 2016, it used the sage version available back then, and bootstrap 3. I have been getting into php and making more fundamental changes to my theme, but updating sage and migrating bootstrap are a bit daunting to me.

My question: do I need to update sage for security (or other) reasons? I don’t mind leaving it as it is.

Is there a process for doing these updates? This has been a stumbling block for me for some time and I’m really struggling ti find a good answer on this stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

In my option you’re probably good to leave it as it is. Sage isn’t really something you need to update unless you’re looking to take advantage of new features.

If you do decide to go ahead with upgrading at some point, i’d recommend hiring someone from the jobs area who will be able to lend you a hand. If you’re currently getting into PHP then it might be a bit tricky, though I have seen upgrade guides knocking around the discourse.
