I can’t find any information on it. It appears to have been wiped from roots.io.
If not clover does anyone have any recommendation on a plugin starting point?

It has indeed been wiped! The blog posts about it are gone and the few topics about it here have been hidden.
Clover was a pretty basic starting point, and some folks that sponsored us just to get access were disappointed by it — it wasn’t worth the trouble anymore. It still exists as an archived repo for current sponsors (prior to archiving it last month), and I’m happy to invite any new sponsors to the repo or provide them with the codebase.
I still use Clover on any plugin projects that are for setups that aren’t using Acorn, but for folks using Acorn it’d be better to use acorn-example-package: Creating an Acorn Package | Roots
